In yoga, the concept of 'karma' is an important one. The idea that what we put into the community is what we get back is a guiding principle for the way we do business. Below is some of the work we do to support both our local and global communities.
Plant a Tree Project
Through a partnership with the Nature Conservancy, Bliss Flow yogis have planted 400 trees in Brazilian rain forests to date, helping offset the effects of forest degradation.
Mats for Kids Project
Bliss Flow Yoga donates gently used yoga mats to local school programs for disadvantaged youth. Teaching students yoga as a coping mechanism when facing adversity helps them relate to themselves and others in a more positive way, alleviates stress and increases resiliency.
Yoga for Parkinson’s Disease Classes
In partnership with the Wisconsin chapter of the APDA, we offer spring and fall sessions for families dealing with Parkinson’s disease. If you or someone you know would like to participate, please email us at email@example.com.
Horizon High School Karma Classes
In partnership with Horizon High School, we offer spring and fall yoga classes to high school students who are working to foster a safe, alcohol and drug-free learning community.
Yoga in the Park
Bliss Flow Yoga + Wellness celebrated Dane Buy Local Independents Week with a free Yoga in the Park event to honor independent business (like Bliss Flow!) and the community that supports them.
'Give a Girl a High Five'
For Mother's Day, we honored the special women in our lives by collecting donations for Girl Up, a global organization that empowers and supports girls in developing countries.
'Memorial Day Karma Flow'
On Memorial Day, Bliss Flow offered a donation-based class with instructor and navy veteran Brian Balzar to benefit Friends of the State Street Family, who support Madison's homeless community.
'Community Baby Shower Event'
Bliss Flow held a special 90-minute karma "baby shower" to donate baby supplies, diapers, and wipes for the infants staying at the local YWCA Madison shelter.
Food + Supply Drive and Dinner for Feeding the State Street Family
The Bliss Flow community donated immediately-needed supplies of toiletries, winter accessories, and non-perishable food to support Feeding the State Street Family. A grassroots nonprofit initiative, Feeding the State Street Family provides care and basic needs to the more than 400 homeless citizens of Madison. Headed by Tami Miller, the work that Tami and the State Street Family are doing is the true embodiment of seva--or selfless service--which is a cornerstone of yoga.
Bliss Flow staff and families volunteered to host a dinner this fall, serving hot meals to about 175 homeless people (including kids). Working directly with the community on this event is really what yoga is all about.
Food Drive with Community Action Coalition and YumButter
Bliss Flow yogis filled 2 barrels of food to help karma partner, Community Action Coalition. Each year, CAC's Food Security Program distributes 3M pounds of food to help households experiencing poverty in our area. Bliss Flow yogis also helped support YumButter in bringing healthy and delicious food to food banks to help malnourished children access the nutrition their bodies need to grow and learn.
'Little Library' Book Drive
Bliss Flow yogis generously contributed to support literacy and access to books in our community.
Through matching donations, and with karma partner Operation Smile, Bliss Flow Yoga funded surgeries to repair cleft palate syndrome for two children. Operation Smile has provided over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with debilitating facial deformities across 60 countries.
'Give a Girl a High Five Campaign'
On special 'Girl Up' days, Bliss Flow Yoga donates $5 for each student participating to provide school supplies for a year, health check-ups, a safe way to get to school and more. Girl Up is a global organization that helps empower and support girls in developing countries.
